Ex-Pro joins LA Premier

LA CANADA, Jan. 7, 2017— Los Angeles Premier Futbol Club (“LAPFC”) announced today the hiring of a new coach, Liam Miller, newly retired from an illustrious international professional playing career.

A nationally-renowned youth soccer club, LA Premier has developed over 15 professional players, dozens of youth national team standouts and placed 100’s of players at the collegiate level since its inception in 2004.

Liam Miller is retiring from playing at Wilmington Hammerheads after playing for some of the top clubs in the world, such as Manchester United and Celtic. Not a stranger to acclimatizing to new cultures and climates, Liam playing professionally all over the world for clubs in Europe (Man Utd, Celtic, Leeds, Sunderland, QPR, Cork City and Hibernian) and also in Oceania for Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar in Australia. He also has 21 caps for Republic of Ireland and scored his first international goal vs. Sweden in 2003.

I am a firm believer if you have knowledge, pass it on. I look forward to giving back what I was able to learn from all my managers & coaches throughout my career.,” said Miller, who has been coached by the great Sir Alex Ferguson, Giovanni Trappatoni, Martin O’Neill, Paulo Sousa and Roy Keane.

It was at Wilmington that he heard about LA Premier, “It started as a conversation with an ex-teammate, Zev Taublieb - who previously played here. He had great things to say about the facility's, coaches, and professionalism of the club”,

Miller believes he is ready for the challenge of coaching the talent at LA Premier, “I am always keen to explore new opportunities in the game through which I can learn and develop, and my forward thinking approach, strong communication and leadership skills, and proven adaptability allows me to make positive contributions across varying football environments."

Miller will take up the reins of the Boys 2001 team after the high school break and will be looking to hit the ground running with the Las Vegas Showcase and National Cup in the Spring. Once a teammate of Ronaldo, Scholes, Keane, Van Nistelrooy and Ferdinand, to name a few, we are delighted he will be on the field in Purple working with players that are ready to take their game to the next level.

ABOUT LIAM MILLER

Liam William Peter Miller (born 13 February 1981) is an Irish footballer who plays for Wilmington Hammerheads in the United Soccer League. Miller began his career with Celtic and was later loaned to Aarhus in 2001. He returned to Celtic Park and broke into the first-team squad during the 2003–04 season. Rejecting the offer of a new contract from Celtic, he joined Manchester United in 2004 on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.[2] Loaned to Leeds United during the 2005–06 season, Miller made 22 first-team appearances for Manchester United.[3]

In 2006, he joined Sunderland, but was linked with a move away from the club because of alleged timekeeping issues. He joined Queens Park Rangers in January 2009 and was released at the end of the 2008–09 season. Miller joined Hibernian at the start of the 2009–10 Scottish Premier League season on a free transfer. He moved to Australian A-League club Perth Glory in 2011 after his contract with Hibernian expired. Miller represents the Republic of Ireland team internationally, making his debut in 2004 against the Czech Republic.
